The BioRuby project aims to implement an integrated environment for bioinformatics using the Ruby scripting language. Ruby is a new language, and it's quickly growing in popularity. People may find that its syntax is more readable than that of Perl's (but, hey, what isn't? ;-)), something like a cross between Perl and Python. And it is fully object-oriented.

BioRuby is coordinated by Shunji Matsuyama, TriP M. S. Nakao, and Yoshinori Kingu Okuji of Kyoto University in Japan.
