    Access to FTP download directories (directories used for files not submitted as formal releases) will be via HTTP from now on. The FTP daemon has been shut down and the port has been closed. This was done to increase server security and to remove some perceived redundancy. We have also considered how FTP in general is being used less often these days.

    Access to the FTP directories and their contents will be via this URL for the time being:

    http://bioinformatics.org/ftp/

    Project/group administrators will find that the internal path to the FTP directories has not changed, and administrators can continue to upload releases, albeit by using SCP or SFTP. The following UNIX SCP command is an example:

    $ scp myrelease myusername[at]bioinformatics.org:/ftproot/incoming

    Locations and procedures are likely to change as the website is improved. We will keep everyone updated.
