Immigrant: The database of immigrant genes.
Eukaryotic genes from Cyanobacteria
This is the Immigrant database of eukaryotic genes related to Cyanobacteria. The name Immigrant refers to the foreign bacterial genes immigrating and becoming established in the eukaryotic lineage. The database was created by taking each gene of the Cyanobacteria Synechocystis and doing protein blast searches. The primary criteria for whether or not a eukaryotic gene came from the Cyanobacteria is if it branches with Cyanobacteria in a phylogenetic tree to the exclusion of other bacterial types. Since "normal" eukaryotic genes are not usually monophyletic with Cyanobacteria this criteria is good evidence that the genes Immigrated from Cyanobacteria.
