You could always use a different interface.
Try our program Base-By-Base
http://athena.bioc.uvic.ca/      see left column of web page

If you have large alignments, I'd suggest just feeding your pre- 
aligned sequences into BBB.
Can produce jpgs from this prog....   + many other features.
