Hi, Tim.

You need to install the 'fallback' session to get NX working:

   aptitude install gnome-session-fallback

It would have been installed in a Desktop version, but I started from a 
vanilla server install with just the SSH service. However, the use-case 
I'm interested in is installing a Bio-Linux terminal server using an 
existing 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 LTS server instance as a starting point.
