Okay, thanks everyone! I've already bought my laptop (I'm using it to type this email), and I didn't partition it. I'll be downloading bioknoppix soon.

I've used the old knoppix before, actually; and one problem I had was that I couldn't save my files on the hard drive, since it ran from the CD drive. Instead I had to save everything on diskettes. Will I still encounter that problem with bioknoppix?

Again, thanks. And this will be my last biobrew-unrelated question.

Carlo

On 12/9/05,

As head of the BioBrew project, I agree with Jeff and Humberto that a
CD-based Linux version is the way to go when testing the Linux
waters. BioBrew can be installed on a laptop and used like a desktop
distro, but it's overkill for the beginner. If I don't have to build
a cluster, I prefer to use LiveCD Linux distros for bioinformatics,
so I would recommend the same for you.

Good luck!

Glen

On Dec 7, 2005, at 7:03 AM, J.W. Bizzaro wrote:

> Hi Carlo,
