[Bioclusters] recommendations on cheap hardware?

A variety of Asus motherboards I have used in personal applications have had
some smaller issues with Linux running on them. These were driver related
issues that were due to the firmware on the motherboard. Asus did update
their firmware to support Linux drivers, but updating firmware is not my
favorite thing to do. I can't say much for any other MB's or any other
manufacturers for that matter, but that's just one small thought.
