Downloadable "Unstuffers" for Macintoshes are now available for Protein Explorer (PE) 2.45 Beta and 2.7 Alpha. Go to http://proteinexplorer.org and click on Download (gray box on right). (Downloads for Windows were available yesterday.) In PE 2.7, Presentations in PE (PiPEs) don't work on the Mac due to a Mac-specific bug (to be fixed in the next release). However, the Undo button, and Saving and Restoring View-Scripts work just fine on Macs. Therefore, PE 2.7 is quite advantageous for Mac users despite the temporary problem with PiPEs. Another Mac-specific bug is that the PE 2.7 Save View dialog offers the command script only in PiPE format. There is a checkbox to change the format to "plain script" but this doesn't work yet on Macs. You can still save a view to the PE View Clipboard (which lasts only the duration of the session) and restore it. If you want to save the script to a disk file, you'll simply need to strip the "!" from the front of every line (Find and Replace in a text editor), and delete the first line (which begins "!spt"). If anyone wants to install PE on an intranet server (preferably a URL not available worldwide, because of resulting confusion in Google searches), please contact me for tar.gz files. ---- Eric Martz, Professor Emeritus, Dept Microbiology University of Massachusetts, Amherst MA US http://www.umass.edu/molvis/martz
