It's not a new name.  gnome-python contains both

    pygnome
&   pygtk

pygtk is needed for pygnome anyway.

I don't have OctoberGnome myself, and Loci works.  It just so happens that
gnome-python-1.0.50 works with some fairly old gnome-libs.  Loci needs at
least gnome-libs-1.0.10.  So, an upgrade of Gnome is probably not needed by
many.
