It looks like we're all thinking along the same line and even using Gnome as a GUI. I coordinate The Loci Project: http://bioinformatics.org/loci/ If you look at the overview, you'll see that Overflow is very much like Loci (or visa versa), except perhaps that Loci attempts to distribute the dataflow across multiple protocols (particularly across the Internet). We are also working on a unique way to construct GUI's using the dataflow model. Loci was started in 1998 and has been listed on the Gnome and Gtk software maps as a scientific application. But it has been progressing very slowly. Have you heard of Loci? Perhaps we can combine our efforts and work on one project rather than two?
