Hi Chris, all of your points are interesting, but don't forget that our question was not to evaluate BLAST (neither its performance, nor its accuracy), but to evaluate the performance of different platforms running BLAST. Everyone of us knows that we have to use *exactly* that program for benchmarking that we are going to use for our future work. And in our case BLAST is a pretty good approximation. As I wrote before, I think that probably there is no standard benchmark test, and it is questionable if there could ever be a benchmark test accepted as standard. But we (and only we) are interested in the question how BLAST performs on dual-P3s versus dual-Athlon-MPs versus dual-P4s, and if some of you may have a partial answer to that question, we would be happy to hear it.
