    Opportunity: Tenure Track Assistant Professor Position in Bioinformatics, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg (Canada)

    DESCRIPTION

    The Department of Computer Science at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2008, or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate must have a PhD in Computer Science or equivalent by the commencement date of the appointment, and have demonstrated competence in teaching, and evidence of strong research potential for developing and sustaining a program of externally funded research, in one of the areas described in the following paragraph. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. A Faculty of Science startup research grant will be awarded to all newly appointed faculty members.

    REQUIREMENTS

    We are primarily seeking candidates with expertise in the area of Bioinformatics. We will also consider candidates in Artificial Intelligence, Networking, Parallel and Distributed Computing, and outstanding candidates in other areas of Computer Science. Duties will include undergraduate teaching and graduate teaching and supervision, research, and service-related activities. Candidates who are eligible to apply for an NSERC UFA award with a strong likelihood of success will be of particular interest; however, the appointment will not be conditional on the success of such an application.     ABOUT US

    The Department currently has 24 full-time tenure-track faculty members and 6 full-time instructors, and offers a full range of both undergraduate and graduate programs, including cooperative programs. We currently have approximately 80 graduate students and 300 undergraduate students. There are a total of approximately 29,000 students at the University of Manitoba.

    Winnipeg (http://www.city.winnipeg.mb.ca) is the largest city in the Province of Manitoba. The city has a rich cultural environment, including symphony, opera, dance, theatre, and ethnic festivals. The region provides ample opportunities for outdoor recreation in all seasons.
